How do we remain true to core values in a time of constant change?
The work we do here at Native Earth, the stories we tell, we do for all those who have come before and all those yet to come. We cannot know the effect we will have on the world, so we must behave in this moment, in every moment, as if this is the last moment, the last act.
We have much to do, many stories to tell, and that’s what drives us. We need to tell these stories, stories that say we are here, we have been here for millennia, we are still here now, to show how these moments in time are all connected, how this person is connected to that person, how I am connected to you, that we are all connected.
When I go to my heart, knock there, what do I hear? My mother’s voice, her mother’s before her. Back and back and back, connected to this land, and forward, to our descendants, literal and metaphoric. It takes patience, this growing together, patience and generosity and courage.
In the work, we articulate what matters to us. Courage to go on, the humility to recognise that every one has a story, if we can just be still a moment to listen. The strength of character to speak our truths.
