A Brian Solomon Electric Moose production presented in partnership with Dancemakers. Interpreted by Brian Solomon and Mariana Medellin-Meinke, the NDN way re-imagines, remixes, and interprets Cree philosophies on medicine teachings, pipe ceremonies, sweat lodges, and death through a highly theatrical, visual art-warp. Inspired by the original 1974 recording of the Cree storyteller Ron Evans, the performance weaves ancestral teachings into a contemporary artistic vision.
A creative collaboration by Margaret Grenier and Karen Jamieson, light breaking broken (formerly Light Breaking Through BROKEN) is the personal journey of two artists reconnecting with language, culture, and identity. Peeling back layers of the unknown and forging a path to understanding, the work blends distinct dance styles to explore different cultural perspectives and individual histories, pushing each other’s boundaries to find an opening to the light.
Written and performed by Sheldon Elter and directed by Ron Jenkins, Métis Mutt is an honest, touching, and humorous solo performance blending stand-up comedy, storytelling, and music. Drawing from his own life experiences as a Métis man, Elter explores identity, racism, relationships, and self-discovery. With raw honesty and quick wit, the show moves between heartbreaking truths and laugh-out-loud moments, offering a powerful reflection on what it means to navigate the world between cultures.
