Native Earth Presents: Café Daughter

Café Daughter is a one-woman show written by Cree playwright Kenneth T. Williams and produced by Gwaandak Theatre in partnership with Native Earth. Set in 1957 rural Saskatchewan, it follows intelligent young Yvette Wong, who helps at her parents’ café and keeps a painful secret: her Indigenous heritage. Despite being placed in a slow-learners class because of her heritage and living under oppressive social norms, she dreams of becoming a doctor. The performance, brought to life by PJ Prudat in twelve roles, navigates themes of identity, resilience, and systemic bias.
